Just when you thought it was safe to go on vacation...

I've seen movies about sharks killing swimmers, little crazy things that come out of the toilet (I can't even remember what movie that was.. but it freaked me out), killer bugs, and even big monsters that come out of the ocean... but honestly up till now I have never seen a movie about killer plants that was scary enough to really count, Little Shop of Horrors is great but certainly not scary.

The Ruins follows a group of young tourists head off to explore some Mayan Ruins on their vacation. Though there are lots of "signs" that tell them that this is possibly not the best idea they have ever come up with they find themselves stuck in the Ruins with what appears to be people out to get them, and a bunch of angry villagers that do not want them to just walk out of there. Not to spoil your fun, but I honestly will never look at the vines that grow along my fence the same way ever again.

Though it is supposed to be a horror movie I would consider most of the horror in the gore factor instead of a fright flick. There are a lot of gory scenes and one of which that involves them hacking off the legs of one of the group ranks up there almost with "Saw" type gore. If anything it will leave you gripping the closest pillow wishing that they would just stop. For a summer release on a horror flick its absolutely a must see!

The Ruins is available right now on DVD at Amazon!

My favorite gore horror flick would have to be "Wrong Turn". It had lots of gory scenes and a great plot. My brother liked it too.

I saw the preview of "The Ruins", and what caught my eye was that the ruins seemed to be coming alive and killing the visitors. I also liked the part where that girl had something growing under her skin.

My favorite "gore" horror movie would have to be Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses". That is gore and more! I was raised to love horror movies, and "House of 1000 Corpses" was the perfect movie for me when it came out! "The Ruins" seems to be another great "gore" movie for me to sit, eat popcorn, and watch!

Best "gore" flick to me is "Dead Alive". Peter Jackson is a genious. Not to mention that the movie si considered to be the goriest film ever made! Awsome stuff. As far as "The Ruins" go, I missed it in the theater...but I remember that the trailers alone kinda creeped me out.

I really like horror movies, If I had to pick one it would be Halloween.

The suspense of the ruins interest me.

Hello! The most gory horror film that I have seen is "Saw." The psychological aspect bothered me almost as much as the gore part. I have not seen the other "Saw" films, yet. I have only seen the ads for
"Ruins" on tv. One part that intrigues me about the movie the archaeological one. The setting and the unique talent of the living plant/thing. Please enter me in your drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

My favorite gore movie would have to be 28 Days Later.

I rented The Ruins last week and have to say I didn't expect much when I popped it in the player, but I actually enjoyed it. IT was one of those movies I had to watch occasionally from between my fingers. LOL!

I loved the scene when they realized the flowers on the vine were actually mimicing the cell phone rings.

My favorite horror flick(and I have way too many)is High tension. It has more gore than most people can handle and brakes for no one!

Anytime you have adults venturing in places they shouldn't be makes for an interesting movie. That is what intrigues me and appeals to me about The Ruins.

Sharon said...

"SAW"...and I saw it with my son. What appeals to me is that my son loves this type of movie and watching it actually gives us time together...something teens often don't want to do with their mom
THANKS

Definitely Land of The Dead. It was really good. The reason The Ruins appeals to me is because one of my friends saw it when it was at the theater & said it was really scary. I want to see this!

texas chainsaw massacre

i like that in ruins the threat isn't again a human source but something else

My favorite horror movie is the Dawn of the Dead remake. The Ruins appeals to me because of one of the female leads. She was in Saved!

Battle Royale has become a classic for me, it's an interesting (yet disturbing) premise and commentary on the youth of today.

I haven't seen the Ruins, but it looks super thrilling. From what I've seen the cinamatography looks really interesting.

Robin T said...

The best horror movie has to be SAW

The Ruins is a little different than Saw since the threat isn't directly from a single person

My favorite is House of 1000 Corpses, it was very disturbing as is anything Rob Zombie does. The Ruins appeals to me because it is kind of unclear what is going on at least until the very end.

The Exorsist is my favorite. I'd love to win this becaus ei like gore film.

Anonymous said...

I'd have to go with "Saw" if we're talking gore. The first one was the best one and the least gory but it's the only one of the series I've seen. I guess the last one they made was absolutely grotesque. I can't do that.

Tina12312 said...

I love horror movies so it's really hard for me to pick just one, but I'll go with The Thing, such a great movie and plenty of gore to go around. I have read The Ruins and I have to say what interested me most about it was how the townpeople were unrelenting about not helping them and then in keeping them there, certainly dooming them once they had stepped into the vines. I'd love to win this - thank you so much for the chance!

The original "Halloween"; the source of this movie is the author Scott Smith, who wrote "A Simple Plan" which are both great reads.

My interest in horror run more along the lines of Exorcist type movies!

My favorite gore flick of all time has got to be "Cannibal Holocaust," an evil, extremely disturbing little movie for which the title pretty much says it all -- lots of graphic images which, oddly enough, are set to a beautiful easy listening instrumental score, which only makes the blood and guts more appalling! What's most interesting about "The Ruins" is that most of the gore is self-afflicted and the result of hallucination or dementia brought on by the helpless situation the character find themselves in.
