Why did you just shoot that guy in line Mr?

Miracle at St Anna begins with sort of a perplexing scene.. and older black postal worker named Hector all of a sudden freaks out and shoots an Italian man in line with an antique German pistol. You can't help to think to yourself, what on earth just happened, and is it just me or was the first question you think of : Why an antique German pistol? Not to mention back at this guy's house he has the head of a very valuable statue in his closet worth millions of dollars, just tucked away for no apparent reason, and this guy is not wealthy.

A reporter starts asking these very questions and the story he gets is not at all what he expects. Very few people know that there was an all black regiment in World War II and it just so happens that Hector, the postal worker that shot the Italian man was one of them. The movie follows the story of these men as they travel through Italy. The head in the closet, well that was considered a good luck charm to the platoon, though seeing as its now buried in a closet it may not have been the best good luck charm ever? Really most of the story focuses on the platoon itself and this small boy they find orphaned and injured. Though its a good story for a war movie it really shows very little action. The most action in the movie is the opening scene where the guy gets shot.

It's a bit slow building but it tells a very important story. For those of you who are world war two buffs, love war stories not just the fighting, or who just love Spike Lee will be in heaven. I am only just slightly dissapointed as I wish there was some more excitement.

I don't get out enough... I never even heard of this movie and I like Spike Lee. I think the WWII movie Go For Broke was pretty awesome, since it was about the all Japanese regiment in WWII. There are a ton of great ones, though.

Saw the trailer for this film and thought it looked really intriguing (and a really different take on the genre from Spike Lee). I think my favorite war movie would have to be "Full Metal Jacket," which really takes you into the mind and the experience of soldiers from their first days of basic training to their time in a combat zone. Thanks for the giveaway!
