A christmas story for the grownups.

I know it seems a bit early for a Christmas story but Noelle isn't just about Christmas. A priest is sent to a struggling parish with the intention that he is supposed to shut it down which seeing as their current priest is an struggling alcoholic, there are less than a dozen members at the first service he attends and the town seems pretty unconcerned it looks as if that's going to be the way it turns out.

This priest is not all he appears to be, struggling with his own guilt he learns through the planning of a Christmas party that everyone has their flaws and demons. Though it really appears to be a Christmas story a good majority of the movie involves resolves around pro life issues in the Catholic church, the struggles of an unwed mother, and pretty adult matters for a G rated movie. Though there is really nothing bad in the movie the theme is pretty heavy for the younger kids.

I really have to be honest with you though I actually really loved the beginning of the movie I was really expecting an uplifting happy Christmas film and about halfway through the movie I stopped watching it mostly because when it comes to holiday films I really do expect them to be light hearted and happy. Its a great story but its much more of a drama than a holiday flick and its actually a great safe way to introduce real life issues to older kids without having to be to explicit about sex.

The thing we try to impress most upon our children is that Christmas is NOT about the gifts we get, but the Gift we've already been given.

We limit gifts, and talk about Jesus, and try to bring the focus to Who is most important.

We should practice the Christian aspect of the holiday starting with the first day of advent to the last day of the 12 days of Christmas and keep the commercialization out of it--presents aren't what's important.

My message I believe in is about giving back or to those less fortunate. Everyone is having tough times, we don't need to be told that but helping someone through it (emotionally, not just financially) is the way I am. We can all stop and moan (I'm the worst) but there is always someone worse off, who needs us more than we can imagine.
