The Godfather movies like you've never seen them!

The Godfather trilogy will forever be marked in my mind as the ultimate mobster movie ever made. I grew up with The Godfather as sort of this epic set of movies but previously the sound and film quality was sadly very "1970s" in its look, feel, and the graininess of the picture so other than the occasional time I've ended up watching then with friends or family I have to admit as amazing as the stories are up till now It's always been sort of disappointing to watch them on a big screen tv. I recently did a review of The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration in standard dvd format has to be by far one of the best re-released movie sets I've seen in a long time. However, the re-release on blu-ray blows the standard format out of the water.

The biggest diffrence between the two is the sound quality. The new release of The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration brings The Godfather into the future by giving all three movies TrueHD Dolby 5.1 sound and man is it glorious! Between the restoration and the new enhanced soundtrack its almost hard to imagine that the first movie as made in the early 1970s!

Another huge difference between the standard set and the blu-ray set is in the amount of extras offered. Though the standard set offers a ton of extras the blu-ray version offers almost as much extras as it does movies. Including a very candid commentary from Coppola which is worth watching!

Though this sounds a little silly my favorite difference between the standard and blu-ray version is the case. The standard version comes in a thinner cardboard case which its sort of flimsy and was very disappointing compared to the price of the set. The blu-ray version is a much thinner rendition and has a much thicker case. It feels much more substantial and though I'd still like to see something other than just cardboard its a big improvement.

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration
on blu-ray is available on Amazon.
