The Godfather Collection

For those of you that have not seen all three Godfather films, seriously what are you waiting for? The Godfather is one of those series of movies that is defining in American film history. Far better than Rocky, Rambo can't even compete, and appealing across generations. For a mob film its the top of the food chain by far.

This collection includes all three movies the first of which has always been my favorite as its the one that focuses on the Don Vito Corleone himself and much of the background information for the second and third movie. The best part of this series is how they build on each other and its really one story that's just too big for one movie. heh. I'm not sure I really need to go into an in depth review of the movies themselves as they are a classic that I honestly will assume most of you have already seen, not to mention it would take me about six reviews to get through all the information.

The real joy to this collection though is the pure quality to the dvds. Through careful restoration and enhancements you'd be hard pressed to tell that these were not filmed yesterday. The real issue I have with older movies the the graininess you can see in the films. That not an issue in this new DVD collection and its a real joy. There is a whole full DVD's worth of extra features including the story of how the Godfather almost never got made. Can you even remotely imagine no Godfather? The funny thing is Paramount actually didn't like Francis Ford Coppola as the director.. that's almost laughable at this point. Its an interesting story.

My only real complaint is this is a fairly pricey gift set, and well worth it movie wise, but the case it comes in is a pretty flimsy cardboard and I'm honestly a little concerned. If your spending over $50 for a DVD set you at least expect a heavy duty case that will last. Though the thinner case is great for storage as it doesn't take up as much space traditionally as other gift sets I have, Im just not sure it will hold up if you watch these often.
