Make Way for Ducklings!!

One of my favorite memories as a child was visiting the Peabody Hotel and watching the ducks come down the elevator and make their way through the lobby to swim in the fountain in the middle of the hotel. I'm not sure why this was so incredibly entertaining but still to this day I fondly remember watching the ducks with my dad.

Scholastic Storybook Treasures has released Make Way for Ducklings and more delightful duck stories, six duck stories in all to be exact! This includes some of the best duck stories of all time : Make Way for Ducklings, A Story about Ping, The Ugly Duckling, Angus and the Ducks, Cat and Canary, and Wings: A Tale of Two Chickens!!

Connor has been sick all weekend and I have to admit I am exausted. He does have a dvd and a small LCD TV in his room for weeks just like this one. Not to be lazy but there are some nights that I just cannot read him a story to get him to go back to sleep at 2am. With him sick I've been up every few hours at night and he just wants me to hold him. I'm burned out and as a last resort I decided that he might just go back to sleep if we used at storytime DVD to get him back in the mood and I decided to put in Make Way for Ducklings the other night and hit play all so the DVD would just read all the stories before stopping. I held my breath and sat there and watched the first book with him and even though he was totally miserable and I he tossed and turned he stopped crying and layed down to watch. Talk about relief on his mom's behalf, I snuck out halfway through The Story about Ping and layed down in bed and fully expected him to cry and scream for me... and nothing... silence, just the narriator reading softly in the background. I decided right then that we needed to get the entire Scholastic collection just for nights like these. Not that I think its any replacement for me reading to him, but It's really nice to know I have something to back me up especially when neither of us have slept in days!

Ironic, I just found the book Make Way for Ducklings at a garage sale last weekend and wondered if my 3yo daughter would even be interested considering that the drawings are all done in brown. Amazingly, it is currently her favorite story, even though it is a little wordier than most we read. There is just something about ducks!

My favorite duck story is One Duck Stuck by Phyllis Root. It is a very fun read aloud with great tongue twister like rhymes and also is a counting book besides.

My favorite duck story is from an older man from my church. He was near the eggs when they were hatched and then they followed him and waited on him at the window when he went to the house.

I really enjoyed Make Way for Ducklings as a child (I think I first saw/heard it on Captain Kangaroo.) I have shared it with many children, but my all-time favorite "duck story" is The Story About Ping--I was delighted to see that it's part of this collection. Thanks for the offer!

My son has a book called An Adventure with Charlie Chick about a little duck that just gets hatched and is off on an adventure to look for his brothers and sisters. On his way he find several eggs of other animals wich are flaps for kids to open up. It is very cute! We also have Make Way for Ducklings which is such a sweet story. We would love this DVD. Thanks for the givaway!

My granddaughter used to sing a duck story she learned in preschool. It went like this

Five little ducks that I once knew,
Fat were three and skinny were two.
But, the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
Quack, quack, quack!
He ruled the others with a quack, quack, quack!

If a song can't count, I vote for the ugly duckling....but we loved the story in Make way for ducklings too
