High Chair Review : Kaboost & GIVEAWAY!

Kaboost is the first of many high chairs we hope to show you over the next year. And what a neat idea to be our first addition!

The first time I took Kaboost out of the box I had a "what on earth is this contraption" moment. It kind of looks like a cool ultra modern octopus sculpture until you unfold it. To set it up all you do is take it out of the box, unfold the legs, put the first two "arms" onto the chair and then gently tug the last two arms until it stretches out to the size of your chair. Its a one size fits all and I did try it on several diffrent chairs including my circa 1970s dining chairs which are fairly wide and it did the trick just fine.

Kaboost claims to be ultra stable when installed so we decided that the only way to test this theory is to do several tests : (please note that I personally did these tests, so no children were harmed in the testing of Kaboost)

Test #1 - ie attempt to rock the chair to dislodge Kaboost and/or knock over the chair.
Result : Rock, Bounce, whatever I attempted was a failure. Kaboost held on strong and it actually made the chair nearly impossible to slide without getting out of the chair and picking it up. I will note I have hardwood floors as well and none of my monkeying around on Kaboost scratched or even nearly scratched the floors.
Test #2 - ie pick the chair up and try to shake Kaboost off.
Result : Our testing chair has round legs so I thought it would be super easy to just shake the chair to get Kaboost to fall off.. WRONG.. I shook and shook and there it was still holding on mocking me...
Test #3 - the final test - Kaboost says it will hold up to a 300 pound person without failure. Soo we pilled some people on and it did indeed hold 300 lbs (and actually more).

Though I don't recommend you try any of these tests on your own Kaboost (as you may end up hurting yourself or your chair more than the Kaboost) but I did try it for you!

End result... Kaboost ROCKS!

If you have a toddler or even a shorter older child that would like to sit at the table like a big person this is absolutely the high chair for you. I really hate to admit this.. but Kaboost on its lower setting actually helped me sit at the table like a regular person which was odd.. (I'm 4'10 and I'm always short for everything including the table... please don't laugh if you see me on the street but my feet don't touch the ground sitting in a regular chair.. and certainly not in a kaboost'ed chair so I had to hop to get on.. *sigh*)

Kaboost comes in green , chocolate and natural as well! So there is one to match your own style.

Great review, Angela! I love my Kaboost, too! I am glad you have one now! They really do ROCK!

Sassyfrazz said...

OH yeah...I got this up, too:
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I love the kaboost because we can keep all our chairs and my littlest wouldn't feel quite so little. It also seems so much more stable than a booster seat that moves around. It's hard to say what color I'd like best, but I think the green. Please pick me.

Taryn said...

We'd loooove the natural Kaboost. My toddler wants to sit on a chair like us so this would be great!

JaniceJ said...

These really look great, what I would like best about it is the easy snap on in seconds, and how nice for the child to be able sit at the table with the rest of the family, natural would be my favorite color.

Hillary (Mrs. Einstein) said...

I'd love one of these!

Green- I like that it makes the chair more stable especially with a lab in the house!

Tuesday Girl said...

Green!
I like that my "big" kids can sit in big kid chairs, no fighting about booster seats!

Tarasview said...

I love the green- it's a fun colour! And I LOVE that it replaces the booster seat!

Bree said...

I LOVE the lime green! I think it would help my daughter feel part of the family at dinner if she could sit at the same height as us!

noreen said...

I would pick the chocolate, I would love a kaboost and what I like most is that my toddler would feel like more of a big kid instead of little (she gets a little upset when people call her little since she is small for her size)

bison61 said...

I like the chocolate - this would be good at Grandmothers!

I love the chocolate colored Kaboost. My favorite thing about Kaboost is how sturdy it is. Not only can it hold the weight of any child (and most adults), but it holds any chair tight in place - it never comes off! And I love how the 4 legs have rubber soles to keep it from sliding or scratching the floor. Kaboost is awesome!

2migirlsmom said...

I like the chocolate. I like the fact that it is portable and can be used with most chairs.

Mommie Daze said...

I like that's it so stable. The booster we have now slides all over. I want to one that comes in chocolate.

Claire said...

I would probably go with natural...though it ould be a hard choice - the green is so fun! I love that it is stable and that the kids get too sit in normal chairs. All my son wants to do is be like us!

Anonymous said...

From your review, this sounds AWESOME! I love the ways that you tested it (very real) and the sturdiness that it showed! I would love to try this out with my little man...I bet this would make for a more peaceful mealtime around here! Thanks for the chanec to win one...I'd pick the chocolate!

I like the Kaboost in chocolate. It seems like such a practical product...I like its portability and it's compactness.

Qtpies7 said...

Although I like the green, I think the chocolate would be better because we have a very formal dining room.

What I think I would like the best is that with using the Kaboost instead of a booster seat it will eliminate the embarassment of taking the booster seat off for adult friends and finding crusted up left overs cemented to the chair. Nasty! And it has happened to me one or a dozen times.

judis121 said...

While I think the green is nice, I love the chocolate, this looks amazing, must admit didn't know there even was such a thing!Super idea and very practical!

Sassyfrazz said...

Ok, my first 2 comments on this really did not count, because it wasn't a contest last night....now that it is I will tell you that I love everything about the Kaboost! I really like that my little tot can sit at the big table with us. I love that it is so sturdy it won't tip around! What isn't there to love about the Kaboost! Actually, I would love it so much to be randomly picked! :) I am glad you get a chocolate one. That is the one I originally wanted, too, but I got a green one. LOL~ It's all good.

These are so cool! I would love to have a chocolate one for my little guy.

Susan C. said...

I like the natural color one best but would be thrilled with any of them. I love that it hooks on so easily and that is it - doesn't take up extra space around the table. My son is fighting the high chair and just wants to sit at the table so this would solve a lot of dinner arguments!

houseofeling said...

I love the one that comes in chocolate. I think that color suites us best. Also, I so love that you did all that testing. I actually don't think my 3 year old monkey could destroy it...which says alot!

PS said...

We'd take green! I'd love to get rid of the highchair, put my daughter in the old booster, and my son (shorty) in the Kaboost. I love having everyone AT the table!!

I like the Chocolate color the best. I love the fact that the Kaboost eliminates having an ugly booster seat at the table. I'm all about simplifying and cutting out the clutter!

shimmala said...

I'd love the chocolate. The best thing about it is that your child feels like s/he is taking part in the meal the same way the grown-ups are--no special chairs or contraptions to sit in. Still not totally clear how they get down easily, though...

I like the natural and it's so much nicer than a booster seat.

Wow, Never seen one of these. How awesome! We live in military housing, so we are always playing musical chairs with a 6yr old, 3yr old and 14 month old twin girls. This sure would solve alot of problems. The chocolate one is classic, love it! Thanks for writing this review. Gotta share this info with my friends!

I like the chocolate one so it would not be so obvious. My son gave up the booster long before he was big enough for a big boy chair so this would have helped greatly.

baileygp said...

I love the chocolate Kaboost. I think it is a great product because it is cool looking (i.e. not an eyesore) and it allows my munchkin to sit at the table with the grownups!

I love the chocolate colored Kaboost.

It's awesome that they have a high weight-limit, and that they fit on so many different types of chair. This would be great for when we travel to visit folks and don't have room to pack a chair or booster seat.

My favorite Kaboost is the chocolate. We have baby #2 on the way, so we'd love to transition our daughter from her high chair to a kaboost. She'll really feel like a big girl when she can sit and eat at the table with us.

Kaboost sounds so cool! I would choose the funky green if I had the chance. Thanks for your review of the Svan chair. Oh boy, that is one expensive chair, but I love how it changes as the baby grows. Your site is fun!

OK, that is just about the cutest thing ever and I really need one, as my 2 year old completely refuses to use a high chair or booster seat. I love it in all the colors, really.
Thanks for a great review of a truly cool product.

I think natural would work best

agordon10 said...

I like the chocolate one. Kaboost really takes alot of the hassle out of high chairs!

My grandchildren come to visit often and would love to have the Kaboost, both convenient and easy to use. Natural would be the color I choose.

misternat1 said...

i kinds like the green one - i know granddaughter will like it also

i can't decide between natural or chocolate.

Heather said...

I would love to have a chocolate one! My 5 yr is still to small to sit without a "boost" and she hate feeling like a "baby" when her friends come over... a Kaboost would be great for her self esteem!

sweetsue said...

I would love the natural one. I lie the fact that it is so sturdy. Cute too!

Kira said...

I would like the chocolate one. It is so great that it makes toddlers feel like a grown up sitting on a real chair!

Anonymous said...

I would pick the chocolate Kaboost. My three-year-old son refuses to sit in a booster seat, but he's not tall enough to reach the table well when sitting in a normal seat. As a result, he sort of kneels. It works, but I think he'd be much more comfortable in something like a Kaboost. It would satisfy his desire to sit in a normal chair AND put him at a comfortable height.

redron said...

chocolate in color. Hey when you can make the little guy feel like a big guy that is a big deal

Anonymous said...

Natural is the color for me. I love the fact that Kaboost is stable. That is really needed in active households.

Now that our little one is eating solid food, this would be extremely useful!

Sarah W. said...

My favorite part is that the Kaboost is not an eye sore. I would pick the chocolate, as it would fit right in with my decor. Plus, my toddler loves eating at the table with us. But he does not like the confinement of a traditional booster, but he is not old enough not have something! I love this!

Tammy said...

I would like the natural color. I think my favorite part about it is that we have a lot of guests with small children visiting. This would be a perfect compliment so the children that are too "old" for the high chair we put out, could join us at the table. I too am very short (you beat me by an inch!!), this may help me get to the cabinets above my fridge too! lol!

sillelin said...

Wow, nice addition for any family that has little ones over for a visit - so much easier than hauling a high chair around.

Carrie said...

Wow, what a great product and so reasonably prices. I am trying to gather all the items that I will need once we have our child and this will be great. I might loan it to my sister in the mean time. I loke the nautral color as it will best match our furniture. I really appreciate that you did all those tests on the product. My favorite feature is that is has such a high weight capacity. I like this feature becasue the chair will still be usable for adults with out having to remove the product. I also like that is has 2 height settings, will be useful when the child grows taller.

Anonymous said...

I love the chocolate KABOOST and the fact it fits almost any type of chair. (Ours has curve back legs.)

My favorite color would be the lime green even though it doesn't match the colors in my kitchen or dining room. I love the idea of this booster because the kids will feel as though they are really sitting on 'grown up' chairs, and not a 'kiddie' chair.

I've seen the Kaboost in stores already and think it's fantastic, but I didn't know it came in colors other than the green! I would definitely prefer the chocolate, so I'm so glad I found out about the different colors. The best thing about Kaboost is that the child gets to sit on the chair itself just like everyone else at the table. Rather than dealing with the hassle of a booster seat, he gets to sit in the "big boy" chair himself, albeit modified discreetly by Kaboost. My independent boy would love this!

Unknown said...

we would like the chocolate colored kaboost because of all the food that gets stuck in between the chair and the booster seat - eew!

I love it in all the colors, but I would probably pick natural because it goes with everything. I love the portability of this product the best. I can take it with me to grandmoms, playgroups and out to eat and always have a "high chair" ready to go. No more lugging around my toddlers booster seat everywhere !
