Cleaning Review : Dropps Laundry Detergent

Ok, I admit I hate doing laundry.. its just annoying and with a baby it comes in large quantities. I cannot even tell you how many loads one tiny person makes in a week but lets just say I do three loads of his vrs one of mine and his clothes are SOO much tinier. Not to mention having 7 dogs... I'm lucky if my washing machine ever stops running.

When I got the chance to try Dropps I was pretty excited, not only for the environmental benefits but just a pure time saver as well.

Dropps come in a tiny package, holding enough of these little guys to do 20 loads. When I say tiny I'm serious, the package is smaller than a 8oz cereal box. If your worried about the enviorment, which I most certainly am, you can feel good that Dropps is totally biodegradable, phosphate-free, and enzyme-free. It does not sud so its safe for your HE washers. Along with all of that, Dropps are totally safe to use on any of your laundry loads including baby laundry (no enzymes.. no irritation!)!

So with all these promises we decided to put them to the test. We conducted a laundry experiment over several weeks testing everything from towels, dog laundry, my delicates, and the baby laundry. Here's what we found :

Dropps claims that each little packet does one load of laundry and no fabric softener is needed. So unless noted we used ONE Dropps packet per load and no stain treatment or fabric softener.

  • Towels - though I was hesitant to wash my towels without any sort of fabric softener, Dropps claims you do not need fabric softener with their product so we followed their lead. I can happily tell you that my towels were clean, soft, and though I did miss the fabric softener smell, Dropps performed as promised.
  • Delicates - As with the towels I missed that fabric softener smell but it the "Fresh Sent" did leave a nice though faint smell. There were no signs of "detergent streaking" which I sometimes see especially on the delicates where the detergent didn't totally get washed off and it leaves darker areas.
  • Baby Laundry - I did not pre-treat Connor's laundry with stain treater to see just how well Dropps would perform against Connor's best arsenal of stains. They actually did get out 90% of the stains without any extra help. Thats pretty impressive without any enzymes! I did go back and treat just a few of the articles and rewash them (again in Dropps) and we were stain free.
  • Dog Laundry - Ok this is not exactly a fair test for any laundry detergent as my dogs can conjure up some laundry issues that are difficult to manage. I first tried their laundry with only one Dropp per load and it did a fairly good job but still some doggy odor (though faint), the second time around I used two Dropps per load and it actually cut out 99% of the smells which is amazing as normally I use several laundry additives along with my regular detergent to try to cut through the Dog Funk.
So the ruling? Dropps did all they claimed to do, plus my favorite part about them is they take up very little room on my laundry shelf. My laundry room is about the size of a small closet so I really appreciate the fact that I can store a large amount of them in a very tight space. Plus not having to pick up that super heavy container to do laundry is fabulous! I will note I tried the Fresh Sent and the Free & Clear on Connor's laundry and he had no reaction to either variety.

You can buy Dropps on their webpage as well as on Amazon!

So here is the best part!! Dropps has agreed to give one of my readers a whole years supply!! A WHOLE YEAR, can you imagine.. not having to buy any laundry detergent for a year?!?! (I'm soo jealous of whoever wins this one!!)

I just started using these about 2 months ago and am hooked. (Especially when they had their mail-in rebate coupon!) My kids have really sensitive skin and even the scented kind didn't bother them. I think the fact that it is enzyme free might be the factor for them and their skin! So that is why I love dropps, plus they are good for the environment, the biggest seller!!

I'd love to win *FREE* laundry detergent! What is most appealing to me about Dropps is that the package weight is so greatly reduced compared to traditional detergent. A great deal of much money/gas is saved by reducing product weight and thus reducing transportation costs.

I appreciate the fact that it is gentle without enzymes (which are harsh and abrasive) that are harsh on my baby's skin. He has very sensitive skin so we struggle trying to find a detergent that won't cause him to break out in a rash. Right now we're using Dreft but it has chemicals I don't care for.

Sounds like a great solution to many laundry hassles:

...pre-measured biodegradable packets, one per load.
...no measuring cups with their attendant mess i.e. spilled powder / liquid.
...suitable for both regular and HE washers.
...enzyme-free formula: less skin irritation.
...no fabric softner needed.

My favorite thing about Dropps is that it does not come in a bulky plastic container. My recycle bin is not very big, so when I recycle a laundry soap container which is hard plastic, it doesn't condense very well and takes up a lot of space in my recycle container. I could love a detergent that left me some more space for other recyclables! Thanks.

I like many of the same things you mentioned--environmentally safe, small size for storage, and most of all, it apparently really works! Although long past the baby raising stage, do have teenage grandchildren, dogs and cats, so many of the issues remain for my laundry (ie, yesterday a granddaughter managed to spill a glass of RED juice--at least it wasn't on carpet!)

I love that they are small and easy to store.

I like that it's gentle on the clothes and will keep items looking new longer! My tees start to look frayed and worn around the neckline so quickly these days...

Thank you for the giveaway.

My entire family has sensitive skin, so that is my biggest issue with detergents. I really love the packaging. Very easy, big plus!

This is so exciting! Will it guarantee that I will want to stay caught up on the laundry???

Do you know if it is safe for use in a high efficiency washer?

I like the "environmental kindness" aspect of it! Thanks!

I love how it comes in packets which eliminates the messy measuring of blue gooey liquid that gets all over on my countertop! I am impressed with how they are concerned about our environment which everyone really needs to start doing! I would love to try their product...I think it sounds wonderful! Thanks so much for doing this!

The teeny tiny packaging, the effortlessness of the cleaning. I especially love the small environmental footprint. Thanks for a great contest!

I love the fact that the packages are so small and light. I live in a small apartment and would love to save some room. Pick me!

Anything that works, is environmentally friendly and will be gentle on my baby's skin (who has excema) definitely has my vote! I'd love to give it a try.I have currently changed all of my household cleaners to eco-friendly except laundry det, b.c it's so expensive and I use so much of it with a family of 5. And it I like DRopps like you do, I'll be blogging about it too! **Finger crossed**

I would have to say that convenience would be my favorite thing about Dropps. I thrive off of convenience and now that someone has found a way to help me with laundry--I'm in!

Thanks for the giveaway!

First off, thanks to you and to Dropps for the giveaway.

I love that they are lighter in weight than regular detergent. See, most mons are taking in the groceries all on their own, along with their children. A lower weight really is nice.

Thanks and good luck to all.

I've never heard of these but I love how there is no measuring - just throw the package in the washer.

The less chemicals the better!
