Movie Night : Definitely, maybe

Definitely, maybe is the story of a man in the midst of a divorce with a young daughter who springs the question on him on how her parents met as well as that question all parents dread I think (or maybe thats just me) about past relationships.

First of all I should be very clear, I NEVER asked my parents about past relationships but suddenly it was sprung on me without warning by my aunt and I am still traumatized to this day. Not so much that I couldn't imagine my parents with someone else before each other, just the fact that no one clued me in before hand. So I think I was extra anxious to see Definitely, maybe as it struck a personal cord with me.

Will the dad in the movie has had some pretty bad luck with women in the past and through telling his daughter the story of his past relationships and she has to guess which relationship was her mother (the names were changed of course). Both Will and his daughter find the whole process healing.

Definitely, maybe is funny, touching, and sometimes it made me twinge (the moment his daughter asked what a threesome was I had sudden flashes of Connor asking me the same sort of questions... ugg). I guess I better start planning now how to tell Connor the story of how his parents met, and the story of my past relationships, heh.. I guess I will have to change a lot of the facts as well.

Right now you can get $5.00 off the purchase of the DVD with the coupon on Definitely, maybe's website.

Definitely, maybe will be released on June 24th and is available for pre-order on Amazon!

Universal Studios is offering an awesome giveaway to our readers (I want one too!).

How did your hubbie propose to you? I really think this is important as in past experiences I think a proposal really does say a lot about about a relationship. Universal agrees too and they want to give one of my readers a copy of Definitely, maybe, Love Actually, and Notting Hill just for sharing your story.

I want to make this fair.. as I know some of you are not married (including myself) and so not to leave you out.. if your not married tell me about a past proposal or the proposal your dreaming about. I was married previously and unfortunately I cannot share my proposal story as its um yeh.. ok.. back to the giveaway.

A friend of my aunt's introduced us. We now consider her our very own Jewish matchmaker!

We had been planning to visit my parents at their cabin for a Pottery Festival. We spent the day checking out cool pottery, seeing old classic cars, and visiting a local flea market. We ate lunch at the festival and shared an ice cream. We also took a horse and buggy ride around the town. It threatened to rain all day, but never did. He smiled and acted goofy all day. It was a good kind, but still he always had this weird look in his eyes and he just kept smiling. I guess I know why now:>
We watched a movie with my parents and around 11 p.m. he wanted to go out and look at the stars. It had been a long day, but we headed outside when my parents went to bed. It was windy and looked as it could rain any minute. He wanted to head to the pond, but I didn’t want to wonder too far from the house, then he suggested building a fire, but I said it was going to rain soon so why bother, he seemed desperate to stay outside, so I suggested we sit by the fire pit and look at the stars.
The sky was cloudy and bright, not a single star in the sky. We talked for a while and I said I was sorry that there were no stars to look out.
He said he saw one and was looking up, so I look up and see no stars, just clouds. It’s a bit cold and windy so I have my hoodie on, I look at him and say I don’t see any, and asked where? He assures me that they are there, so I look again thinking he is crazy.
Then all of a sudden he is down on his knees and pointing up and I keep looking but see no stars, I look down to tell him he is silly. (Suddenly I am wondering why he is kneeled in front of me.) He points and my eyes follow. Still nothing! Then he says look lower, lower, lower, and suddenly I am tree level and really think he’s lost it, so I turn and say I am sorry but I don’t see any stars. He assures me there is one and that I should look again, and when I look back to where his hand was pointed I notice that he had a small box in his hand.
Caught of guard, I ask him what he is doing, and he says he has a question for me. My mouth hanging up I ask him what. And he asks me if I will Marry him. I guess I said yes, I don’t remember, he said I did. I hugged him and kissed him and that’s when I asked if I said yes, he assured me that I did, but I said yes again, just in case. We sat outside a few more minutes. It was almost midnight. We were in about 5 minutes when it started to down pour. I commented that he had been lucky and he said that his powers only lasted for June 10th.

My hubby proposed to me as part of a Trivial Pursuit game with 2 sets of couple friends (the same ones who'd introduced us originally). He'd dummied up one of the question cards to read some variation of "Will Deb H. agree to marry Ron S. on December 23, 1998..." for every single question, and the whole game was completely orchestrated so I would end up with that card. It took me a second to realize what it was - and it was the date I noticed first, not my name! LOL :)

My then boyfriend came to visit for a long weekend (July 4th). My father is old fashioned and wanted to be asked before proposed to, JL knew this. Thanks to the AC dying over a 90+ degree weekend I fell asleep on the floor and he had time to ask without me knowing.

The next day we went mini-golfing, to dinner and then I wanted to go back inside to rest. JL insisted that we go for a walk under the stars. When we were almost back at my house he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

My entire family knew he was going to pop the question and were waiting for him to finally do it.

Thanks for the fun giveaway!

Well, nothing major for my story. My husband and I are high school sweethearts who began dating in 1991…

He presented me with a ring and proposed to me in 1992 over ice cream. I accepted and we were married in 1993.

We celebrate 15 years of marriage, this year! Woot. I’m still in love with him, very much.

I don't think a proposal really says a lot about about a relationship... my proposal was simple and sweet - nothing fancy, nothing extreme... just "Will you marry me?" Yeah, lookin' back it'd be cool to have had something WOW to tell others about... but I'm happy that he proposed and the method wasn't a big deal... it cerntainly doesn't say a lot about our relationship, in my eyes.

We love to watch romantic movies together and I’d love to win this movie pack for us! Thanks for the chance.

My husband proposed to me after we had spent the day at his second cousins wedding. We were sitting on the couch just talking about the day and when I closed my eyes for a minute he got off the couch on to one knee and when I opened my eyes he said how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. katie_mmartin at yahoo dot com.

When we were dating, my husband and I used to celebrate silly little "monthaversaries" for each month we were together. We were on vacation in Palm Springs together during our 15 monthaversary, so we decided to do something fun that night. There is a cable car that goes to the top of a mountain in Palm Springs where there are hiking trails and gorgeous views of the entire city. Before we got out of the car for the ride up, he grabbed a paper grocery bag out of the trunk -- telling me it was just "a little something small" for our monthaversary. We went up to the top of the mountain just before sunset -- there was still some snow on the mountain in places, it was beautiful. He wanted to go on one of the hiking trails but I resisted because I'm not so naturey all of the time! Anyway, I finally agreed and he walked me over to this stunning slope with amazing views of Palm Springs below us. He asked me to turn around so he could set up a little surprise, and when I turned back around he had set up two little speakers and a little discman to play our song, "It's your Love". He asked me to dance, right there, on the mountain as the sun was setting. I thought that was my little surprise, but during the bridge of the song he asked if I loved him. I said yes, and he got down on one knee, right then, and said "then will you be my wife?"

Of course, I had to ruin it by saying "Are you serious?!!!???" Of course then I started crying and saying yes over and over. It was amazing, I was so surprised. He is truly amazing.

PS -- Love Actually is my favorite all time movie (I can watch it again and again, and I don't ever watch movies more than once) and I've never seen "Definitely, Maybe" so I would be THRILLED to win! THanks so much!

OK, so I will try my best and share our proposal story. It all began on December 15 2001. Pat and I were driving after getting coffee. Getting coffee was something we always did together. We loved to go driving and just talk. Over the past few months we had become rather good friends. Well that night (12/15) he happened to stop at a double arrowed sign at the bottom of my street, we just sat there talking and after a while I stopped and looked at him and told him that I was starting to fall in love with him, I didn't know how it would affect our friendship but I just had to tell him how I felt. He told me he felt the same way. After that day we became a couple and were inseparable. That following year on my birthday (9/21), he had picked me up from school and we were going to celebrate by going to Disneyland. We had to stop at my house to get my stuff for the weekend, and he stopped once again at that double arrowed sign. He got out of the car, of course I was thinking "what is he doing", he motioned for me to get out and I did. I walked over to him and he took me by the hand and said "this is where you gave me your heart, this is where I give you mine" you got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

here we are 8 years later and with two kids (hopefully a 3rd on the way soon)

My husband, when he was my boyfriend, had been in a bad car accident while on business in Cairo and I traveled to Egypt to be with him during his 19 subsequent surgeries and rehabilitation. I was told there was a good chance he wouldn't be able to walk correctly or move his foot again. It took two years for him to recover to even start physical therapy. It was an arduous time and he was in a lot of pain, but we pulled through. He still walks with a limp, but the most important thing is they were able to save his leg, which at first they thought they'd have to amputate. The first night we were able to go out after his recovery, with him on crutches and in pain, he took me to the Four Seasons along the Nile, where he had reserved a beautiful room and we had a great dinner. Afterwards we went onto our balcony to look at the Nile. I told him I had never seen anything so beautiful. He looked at me and told me, "I have." He struggled to get down on one knee; I was so moved by this that I burst out in tears because it was the first time I had seen him move like this in years after his accident. I started telling him to get up because I was scared he would damage his leg more, when he pulled the ring out of his pocket and proposed to me. I was a blubbering mess, and I don't even know how I got the word "yes" out, but I did and right then and there I told him I would marry him every day for the rest of my life, over and over.

Happy Thursday! We dated long distance for 3 years. My husband to be was finishing college in California and I lived in Illinois. He is 7 years younger than me and wanted to finish college and find a job before marriage! In 1985, he was home for the holiday season. He came over and was holding an adorable polar bear with a red ribbon color.
It was handed to me in no particular fashion. I was adoring the bear because I collected them from all over! When I got to the back of the bear, I found an engagement ring hanging on the bear's red ribbon collar. Thanks, Cindi

My boyfriend asked me marry him at a Fourth of July fireworks display out side the Rosebowl in Pasadena. We were lounging on the golf course there where they let you sit and picnic and watch the fireworks. They were so spectacular and the night was very balmy. We had just toasted my parents whose anniversary it would have been (they had to marry on the 4th as that was the only day the chapel they wanted to marry in was available). We laid back and watched a bit and then he said, "Thes is the only fireworks we have had in our relationship and I think that is a good sign. You're my best friend and my lover and I would love it if you would say 'yes' to marrying me." The he reached into the picnic basket and pulled our a beautiful antique (: ring. No wonder he hadn't let me pack the picnic or unpack it! Of course I said "yes!"

He said "I'm trying to propose to you." I said "What, giggle, giggle." He said he had texted me a proposal and I had not gotten it yet. I of course said yes. I finally got his text 2 hours later. How romantic, ha, ha! You would think a 28 year old would be more romantic. I was hoping for a more romantic proposal. Since I had waited until 38 to get married. I had to take what I could get.

My hubby came to visit me over my birthday weekend while I was still in college in another state and we went to a lake near my apartment for a picnic. We had lunch, swam and then were about to eat dessert when he said he'd made something for me and wanted to show it to me. He's an amazing artist, and he'd written and illustrated a "fairy tale" that told the story of our relationship, complete with pictures he'd drawn of our adventures together (we grew up together in the same church, so there were lots to choose from). When I got to the last page, however, there was no ending, just a big question mark, and when I looked up, he was on one knee with a ring in his hand, asking me to complete the fairy tale and be his wife! It was muy romantico and I was of course really happy, but one of the funniest parts of the stories was that there were these construction workers cutting down trees and clearing brush with all these noisy saws and tools. When one of the guys saw that my hubby was down on one knee, he yelled for everyone to turn off their machines and it suddenly got quiet, and then when they saw him put the ring on my finger they cheered.

My husband and I were wrestling around one day, goofing off and acting like a couple of school kids. After a while of just being goofy, he got a serious look on his face, pulled a ring box out of his back pocket, and asked me to marry him. It was enough to make me emotional. We'll be married six years this October.

We had discussed marriage, it was the inevitable conclusion to our relationship - but in the future. Then necessity prompted us to put wedding plans on the fast track.

Suddenly we had a date and it was 10 days away! We were swept up in wedding plannning, any hopes of a romantic proposal out the window.

It was Saturday, one week before our big day, I was shopping for a wedding dress when my husband-to-be called and suggested going out for dinner that evening. I agreed, despite being exhausted and hoping for an early night.

That was the first surprise. He took me to a beautiful, romantic restaurant. We dined by candlelight and I began to wonder if he might slip in a last-minute formal proposal. We ate, drank, and lingered a while, but no proposal came. Instead he glanced at his watch and suggested we head home so he could catch the game on TV. Oh well.

Halfway home he made a wrong turn, mumbling something about picking up imported beer at a specialty store. I was silent, we'd cut the evening short for this game and the pursuit of imported beer!

Distracted by my thoughts, I took a moment to realize we'd stopped on a lonely road beside the city lake. "What's wrong?" I asked anxiously He ignored me and jumped out of the car. I stared and was startled to see a man wearing a large straw hat emerge from behind the bushes to greet him. I looked beyond the bushes and, moored just feet away from me was an authentic Venetian gondola. Did I mention we’re in Texas?

My husband-to-be loaded me onto the gondola, produced a bottle of red wine and somewhere out there on the lake under the light of a beautiful moon, with our gondolier serenading us, he slipped a ring onto my finger and asked if I’d marry him. I said yes!

My husband is really a sweetheart, just not super creative. He put in a cd that had our song on it while we were hanging out at his place (now our place). He was waiting for the cd to come to that song when he was going to ask me if I wanted to dance, but I beat him to the asking part. When it got to the part of the song that we both loved-the romantic part, he got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and of course I started to cry. And that was it-we were married 2 months later and now nearly 3 years later we have two beautiful children, a 2 year old and a 10 month old :)

I was set up with my husband by my mom and one of her best friends (his cousin!). I had just gotten out of a really bad relationship and was SO not interested in having a serious boyfriend. So the first 7 months we dated I really could have taken or left the relationship with no problem. But then I accidently fell in love. :-)

After almost a year of us dating I had a promotion offered to me but it meant moving 3 hours away. I have always put my career first but I knew that this is the man that I wanted to marry and I just didn't know if he would want to move with me. He encouraged me to take the job and said that we would figure out a way to be together. So off I moved one month before our year anniversary. The next two months were very hard for me. I was in a new city, I was living with family and was missing him terribly. We had talked about marriage and so I started putting on the pressure. Always a good idea! So after a month of hard pressure I finally just threw up my hands and shut up about it.

I was visiting him one weekend and he wanted to go out to lunch before I left to drive back home. I wasn't really thrilled about doing it because we had gotten a huge fight the night before and I was still upset, but I went along. He took me back to the restaurant that we had had our first date. I noticed he was acting weird, but it mostly got on my nerves because I was already moody. He kept getting up and down and was just generally jumpy. So we have our lunch and small talk and we are sitting at the table waiting for the waiter to come take our plates and bring our bill. We were at one of those restaurants that have the paper tablecloths that you can write on. Hubby picked up his plate and started writing or drawing something under his plate. I asked him what he was doing but he just smiled and said nothing. I shrugged and said, "Whatever." Finally the waiter came and took our plates. I glanced over at what my hubby had written and then just looked away. But then it occured to me, "I need to look at that again! There is something very important about that!" I looked again and he had written, "B I love you! Will you marry me?" I immediately burried my hands in my face and started crying. When I looked up again he had the ring sitting on the table and said, "Well?" I said yes of course! And we have been married 7 months! :-)

My husband surprised me by proposing only 6 weeks after we first met. I knew he was the "one" but it was still fast and surprising! I had been wanting to check out the local botanical gardens for a while so he told me that is where we were going that night for our date. I did think it was a little odd because it was forecasted rain for that evening (rare in Arizona) and he was rushing me to get there and hurry into the gardens. We asked the lady at the ticket counter where the best lookout spot was in the gardens and he hurried me up to that spot. I was a little frustrated that he was rushing me until we got to this spot and I saw 3 dozen red roses with a beautiful sparkling ring inside! I turned around to him asking me to marry him. He had gotten my friends to help set the whole thing up and the lady at the ticket counter was in on it also! I had no idea. Now it's been 4 years and one child later and we're still as happy as can be!

We had the most romantic (and private) ceremony. We had both been married before and wanted to elope. That was 12 1/2 years ago and the rest is happily ever after history!! It just proves that there is happiness after divorce! He is truly my soulmate!

My husband actually asked me 3 times (he says 4) before I said yes. The first 2 times I tried to head him off--I really didn't want to say no, but I thought I really shouldn't say yes yet--we hadn't known each other (non-long distance) for very long yet. So I kept saying--ask me in a couple months. I finally said yes when we were making banana bread at his apartment.

I had just moved in with him the week before. We had been living in two states while I went to grad school. It was February so I spent all day cooking and baking an extravagant Valentine's dinner. He had been out of town and he called on his way back. I said "If you were really romantic, you'd stop and get me flowers." Little did I know that he was going to propose. He had the ring designed and made and had been dying to give it to me, but waited until this special dinner.

Funny thing is that I kept saying I wouldn't move back until he proposed and he said he wouldn't propose until I moved back. He didn't want me to make any life decisions based on our relationship. It was fortunate that I found a job in my career in our home town! The rest is history (two kids later).

We went to Austin TX for our last college spring break to visit a friend who had moved there the previous year. Made reservations at moderately fancy restaurant. Got seated and we're looking at menus, I'm asking him what looks good and he can't respond. He appears to be scanning the menu but unable to actually read it. And his knee is bouncing (he's not normally a knee bouncer). He finally says something, then while I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to order, he gets down on one knee...yada yada yada.

He was planning to wait until dessert, but was so nervous he couldn't wait any longer! Plus because he had waited too long to order the ring, he had just picked it up that day (jeweler had FedExed it to Austin for him). It ended up being quite the comedy of errors to get the ring in time.

I hope he makes it really dream-like with matching tuxedo about to go out of a limo and he will accompany me inside and the first thing i'd see on the seat is the diamond ring, or maybe he could propose to me near a Tiffany store, that way I will be the one to choose my ring. :D

We were hiking up a mountain. When we got to a high peak I pulled out a pair of binoculars to see the view. When I pulled them away from my eyes and turned around, my now-husband was on one knee with an open ring box. I was completely shocked! I didn't know he'd been looking at rings.

We were dating for 3 years (all through high school). We kind of knew we were going to get married. One day we decided it was time to announce our engagement. We've been married 21 years now.

It is fun to read everyones stories. Here is mine...
I met my husband when I was a missionary in Africa. We dated for over a year, and although I had always dreamed of a romantic proposal (thanks to hollywood) I still had to contend with cultural differences. In my husbands tribe, you don't have a fancy proposal, but you first must gain permission from all the parents before you become engaged. So when we decided we wanted to marry we had to wait an antagonizing 2 weeks before all parents agreed. If we could not have talked my parents into giving their 'blessing', then he would not have married me!!! Thankfully they did.

That was such a long time ago, but I remember it well. We were watching TV in the basement and it was very late. I was half asleep when he just asked "Will you marry me?" I was shocked and didn't know what to say. I did say yes and that was 28 years ago! And yes, we are still together.

My proposal story is that there is no proposal story. It's all very pragmatic. I think we just sort of decided that we should be engaged because we were going to live together, so I offered to pay half the cost of the ring. We went to a jewelry store while on vacation to pick out a ring, and th jeweler asked how he proposed. We both blushed and admitted that there really hadn't been a proposal, and the jeweler offered us the back corner of his store so my husband-to-be could get down on bended knee and "do it right." We didn't take him up on the offer, but we did buy a ring that makes me very happy every time I look at it. Sometimes I wish I had a really romantic proposal story, but you know? In its own way, the common sense story is just as romantic. Our relationship is a solid partnership and we share similar values and we both are not outgoing, demonstrative people. (I'd love to win the videos and live vicariously by watching people who are vivaceous and outgoing, however!)

The town we live in has an amazing selection of antique stores and my husband and I loved spending our days at them. There was one that had the most amazing antinque diamond ring, that I LOVED. The best part was that it was a perfect fit. One day while we were out, I was drooling over the ring. We left the store, and my husband said he had to go to the bathroom real quick. He came out and we decided to go down to the river and have some lunch. He gave me a hug, slipped the ring out, and asked me. Of course I said yes!!

my then fiancee, now husband and I went to Disney World for vacation. We went to this resturant called the Coral Reef, there they have this huge fish tank where divers sometimes go in. Anyways He had the divers go down with a sign that said "Mary-Elizabeth Will you marry me?" of course i said yes. He was all nervous because the divers were down in the tank for a while with no sign. he fake that he had to go to the bathroom and he actually asked the hostess whats going on. Everyone in the resturant was clapping and cheering for us. Super sweet.

Well I knew that it was coming. I had helped pick the ring, but he kept telling me that he wasn't sure how he was going to ask my dad. We were still in college. He had a day off that I didn't so he came up to my school to meet me. I had just gotten out of class so I called to see if he was there yet. He was and he said he would meet me at the gazebo which would be in the middle of where I was and the place where he supposedly had to park. This so happened to also be where we had our first kiss. I really though nothing of it though because I thought that he still hadn't asked my parents and didn't know that the ring had even come in yet. So anyways. We sat there a little while, and we reinacted our first kiss, with just a little addition to the end when he was down on one knee! I said "yes", then I said "did you ask my parents". Then all the fibs started to reveal themselves. He really hadn't had to park on that side of campus so the gazebo wasn't in the middle, and he had asked my parents the day we picked out the ring. I think they were good lies though. I was very surprised.

Ours was really boring! We were laying in bed (yes, we were living in sin) and he put the ring on his finger and kinda shook it in my face. I saw it, looked at him and he asked me to marry him. Granted I knew he asked his mom for the ring (his grandmas) and he had asked me before (with out a ring). That time was more romantic. We went for a walk in the rain and he got down on one knee and asked. We have now been married for three years and have a 5 month old son.

When we were college freshman, one of our first dates was out to a local park at night to "do some Astronomy homework," at least until the campus police came! He took me back there when he proposed.

My husband and I met in college. We were friends but didn't rally like each other. One day I realized I liked him and we started dating. We only dated a month and a half and then he had to go to Texas for summer pest control sales and I had to go be a recreation guide in Southern Utah. We would be apart for 4 whole months. With little to no chance of seeing each other. We talked on the phone every night and even talked about getting married. He told me that he would propose to me the next time we saw each other. We ended up being able to see each other halfway through the summer when I met his family in Washington. It was so intimidating to meet his whole family (there's a lot of them) that I forgot about him proposing. We were running errands for his sister one day and had to take some stuff to a relative at their lake house. The only way to get to the lake house is to go by boat. I'm not a big fan of the water so I was freaking out a bit as we went across the lake. He stopped in the middle of the lake to just talk and there were clouds in the sky and a gorgeous sunset. He told me that we didn't have to take anything to the lake house, but all the stuff in the plastic tub was for me. He then proceeded to pull things out of the tub. He had me close my eyes each time. I didn't even figure out that he was going to propose. He would say things like "I love you because you traveled so far to see me" and gave me a travel etch-a-sketch. The last thing he pulled out he said, I love you and you are so beautiful and I want to spend the rest of our lives together. I opened my eyes and there was the most gorgeous ring. I forgot to say yes because I was so surprised that he had just proposed. The sunset was even more beautiful after that, until it started lightning and then we had to hurry and get off the lake. I couldn't stop smiling the whole rest of the summer. It was so wonderful and I couldn't ask for a better proposal.

My hubby took me to an azalea garden on his university's campus one Easter and kissed me there (made a big deal about it).

The next June, he told me that there's a old saying that whoever you kiss there you'll marry someday -- and he then got down on one knee and popped the question :0)

My husband and I were young and were facing an unplanned pregnancy so I will have to say what my dream proposal will be.

I read about this in a book, and my best friend's husband proposed to her this way and I just think it's the most romantic thing ever.

I love the beach.....there's no other of God's creations that moves me like the beach. I would love to be proposed to (again, by the hubz of course, lol), on a tropical beach with white sand and clear, blue water, with the ring inside of a seashell.

My friend came upon the shell and was so thrilled to have found a whole conch shell on the beach. She was like, "What is in this???" and almost threw it into the ocean, lol (it was stuffed with tissue or some other such thing).

Her then boyfriend stopped her and told her to pull it out and inside was the ring.

How romantic is that????

Thanks for the giveaway! :)

We went out to the beach, as I was going off to an out of state college the next day. He was planning to ask the moment the sun set...but there were clouds on the horizon so that didn't work out. So then he waited until the first star showed up to ask. :) We both knew he was planning so it wasn't a big surprise, but it was nice regardless.

I lived in California at the time and my husband lived in Indiana. He was flying out to visit...little did I know that he was going to propose! He was going to have everyone on this little pedal-jumper to give me a rose as they got off the plane. However, he missed his connection! I had to drive to Sacramento to pick him up...2 hours after he had already arrived. He proposed in the middle of the terminal and just gave me the roses instead. Everyone in the terminal clapped for us. There is a whole other story behind my ring...but that's a story for a different day!!

Since both my husband and me are accountants--I think ours was a merger rather than a marraige and we talked about the best time to do it tax-wise---so we got married in early January so that we could finish one year as single, then start another as married. It wasn't very romantic, but practical.

so this really cute guy and i were still quite young at 21 and 22, so soon after we started seeing each other we were taking a bath together (we were both much thinner back then) then this hot guy says to me "so, you think you might wanna get married or something?" i thought, is he joking? so i replied with "yeah, you know whatever" and i thought...is he serious?? 3 months later we got married at a bar! now its 14 yrs later and we are both still happy!
not the most romantic, but it works for us!

My husband didn't actually propose as much as he was forced to take the next step in our relationship. We ran into some friends who had announced their engagement and they asked when we were going to get married. So my husband answered "Um, sometime next year." And that was it, we started planning our wedding from that moment and married the following year.

I wish I had a super romantic story but I don't! My husband proposed to me on Christmas Eve in front of my family because of pressure from his family. I personally would have preferred something more private. He got so nervous about it all he could get out was the "will you marry me" part. He did get down on one knee. Totally threw me for a loop!

I will never forget the marriage proposal from my now husband. We had been only friends for about a year before we started dating. Shortly after our first date, my husband "kidnapped" me for the weekend. We hopped into his red sports car and drove to the Shenandoah Mountains. He pulled off to the side of the road, and said that he wanted to get out and see the view of the mountains. After we got out of the car he said to me, "it's the beautiful view of your face that I really wanted to see." He turned toward me, held my face in his hands and told me how much our friendship had meant to him and asked if I would make all his dreams come true and marry him. We have been happily married for five years.

My husband found out that the Navy was sending him overseas, so he bought a ring and came to my house. He got down on his knee and proposed to me. Then he told me that we had to be married by the end of the week or the Navy would not let me go with him and we would be separated for 18 months. Needless to say we were married by the end of the week and that has been 21 years ago.

I went to a nursing conference in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago. I asked my husband to join me. He told me he had to work and was not able to. He took me to the airport and told me he'd pick me up in a week. I was staying with some friends and we decided to walk on the beach before going to dinner. As we walked out onto the beach, there stood my husband flower petals on the sand, ring in hand, on one knee proposing to me...it was so romantic!

We started dating when I was 16 and he was 18 so in a way we were HS sweethearts (even though we didn't go to the same HS).

After we had been together about 4yrs, so around when I was 20ish we went to the movies to see "America's sweetheart". We were sitting in the theater waiting for it to start and I noticed David was very jumpy and his legs were shaking like he was nervous. I was so confused and a little irritated I kept saying "knock it off, what's wrong with you" lol Well right after I said this he pointed to the screen and said "what's that?" and I looked up and there was a huge picture of the two of us and it said "Jenna you've always been my sweetheart, will you marry me?". I was in shock.....a friend of his came running with a video camera and david got down on one knee with a ring. Of course I said yes, and everyone in the theater clapped =) we still have the video and I play it for my kids all the time.
