It's really rare I pay any attention to a cover on a DVD, sure an attractive package gets your eye but this one had me pretty much ripping the plastic off ready to watch the series. The Tudors a series from Showtime will keep your attention from the moment you see the incredibly sexy picture of King Henry VIII on the front to every single episode in the series. For those of you that are not familiar with King Henry VIII's history the series is fairly true to his real life. Yes sure I'm positive that its an over dramatization but the general timeline of his life is based on facts. The Tutor's dynasty is cursed with sex, death and lies. It was almost a tv series waiting to be maid as the life of the Tudors resembles something out of a soap opera gone terribly terribly wrong.King Henry VIII was a exciting but terrible man, known for his many wives in his quest for a son and his reputation with the ladies and his reputation for having his wives executed. Not to mention his troubles with the church. I honestly can't say if I admire him or he gives me nightmares but the ladies of his time sure did seem to like him. It just wouldn't have paid to be one of his wives that's for sure. The Tudors Season Two picks up when King Henry VIII meets his second wife Anne who is as beautiful is she is scheming. The Pope declares that King Henry cannot marry Anne lawfully as his wife Catherine is his legitimate wife under the church. King Henry marries her anyways and the marriage is rocked with problems the most pressing of which is the fact that their first child is a girl and the second child is miscarried. Though they do not directly tell you in the series but in history the second child was supposed to have been a boy. Between his many indiscretions and his war with the church the King is not a happy camper.
I'm not totally done with the series yet but as the the third disc opens Queen Catherine, Henry's first wife is sick and possibly dying and Queen Anne is dealing with fears that she may be loosing the King herself. With no male child to give him the King is loosing interest in her and becoming more and more erratic in his behavior. If she only knew just how much in danger she really was and how awful the royal court could be during that time. Though from her dreams she suspects and is fearful of the possibilities. Its hard to believe that Queen Anne's rule really only lasted a very short three years most of which was rocked in turmoil that is pretty easy to see in the series the Tudors.
Lets drop the history bit though and talk about the show. Its sexy, the King Henry in the series is incredibly hot and his steamy sex scenes will give you girls out there some good dreams. This is much unlike the real King Henry which makes me wonder why he was so popular other than being the king as by today's standards he was pretty dull looking. For those of you that ever dreamed of being a princess growing up may reconsider after watching the Tudors. I have panic attacks over the politics of dog shows much less of the politics of the royal court. I think you can count me out all together. I've always said its so much sweeter to be poorer than you would like but happy than have everything and be miserable.
The Tudors is an amazing series. Now you guys have to excuse me as I'm about to watch the last two episodes before I go to bed and I need to order Tudors Season One as well. You can get your copy of the Tudors Season Two on Amazon as well!
I have three copies of Tudors Season Two to give away to my readers!

ReplyDeleteWow...that's a hard question. I will have to go with Princess Diana. She really seemed to have a compassionate heart and did so much charity work (something that most "Royalty" never did before). I was so saddened when she passed away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway.

Mary Queen of Scots
ReplyDeleteI've always been fascinated with Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots. In fact, for Christmas, I bought my daughter one of the Royal Diaries series about her!
ReplyDeleteI'm a faithful subscriber.
ReplyDeleteI think I would go with Charles II as my favorite. He is generally seen as just a pleasure loving womanizer, but he managed to stay alive, come back to the throne after Cromwell, & pretty well keep his country together. Unlike Henry, although his queen wasn't able to give him a son, he was apparently unfailingly kind to her. Too bad his brother didn't have the same kind of political common sense!

ReplyDeleteOK, your splendid review has me all hot and bothered now so I really want to win the DVD so I can drool over the actor "King" too. Hey, I live a boring life, LOL. I never cared much for any of the Royals until Diana came along. Poor thing. Her life was way too short but her deeds live on. She was a wonderful humanitarian.
