Did you guys see that Beethoven movie that was so popular in the early 90s? I absolutely loved it and unlike what you might think and the fur party we have going on here with the seven dogs I'm not always a huge fan of dog movies. However with that said, Beethoven has always had a warm place in my heart.. possibly because who could not love that big hunk of dog? Seriously it may just be the fact that my dogs are so small but there is something about a big droopy eyed St Bernard that makes you just want to run up there and grab those big cheeks and give them a huge kiss.Beethoven in this movie finds himself homeless and is picked up by a really well meaning kid named Billy. If you think bringing home a dog the size of most kids is not a lot for one family to handle try bringing home a HUGE dog and its three puppies. Talk about a shock even if Billy's father is a dog trainer by trade. This brings me to one really important question. Billy's father Eddie is a animal trainer but he forbids dogs in the house? How is this even possible unless he is one of those guys who refuses to bring their work home. Heh.. I'm not sure I could avoid my work if I tried seeing as its all over my desk and on the floor around my desk. I really should take a picture for you guys at some point.. even my kitchen table and study desk has been taken over with giveaways. Sorry, back to the review.
Eddie finds himself in a bit of a mess when he gets fired from his job when the star dog goes missing. Turns out he is not so much missing as he is dog napped. This is where the standard dog plot kicks in, its basically up to Beethoven to find the bad guys before he becomes a victim himself and save the day.
Though the plot reminds me a bit of a modern day Lassie plot there is a lot to be said about Beethoven. I mean you just can not go wrong with a Beethoven movie if you have a dog loving kid. Connor will drop pretty much anything he is doing to spend the entire time mesmerized by the TV if he even thinks he spots Beethoven. Though this is primarily a kids movie there is a little romantic twist as well in there for the adults. Regardless you will find yourself laughing out loud at the doggie antics and wanting to steal one of those puppies off the screen yourself.
A little extra feature I used to see all the time on DVDs but has been replaced on many dvds is the fact that Beethoven's Big Break comes with the widescreen and full screen version. I personally am a huge widescreen freak, however my mom prefers full screen movies so we can both be happy with one copy instead of having to buy one for her house and mine which is a rare luxury these days it seems.
Beethoven's Big Break is available right now and you can pick up your own copy at Amazon!
I have three copies of Beethoven's Big Break to give away to my readers!

I was just talking about the first Beethoven movie this past weekend! My daughter Sage is nine years old and obsessed with animals, dogs in particular. We were naming our favorite animal movies (Milo & Otis, Air Bud, Homeward Bound, Cats & Dogs, etc) and I realized she had never seen Beethoven. This would be a great family movie night film to see!
